Allusion.
Â

The exhibition focuses on the notion that images allude to certain ideas whether

superficially or in more subtle connotations. The works and styles of the two artists

are contrasting in their use of media but approach similar ideas of ambiguity and the

manipulation of the viewer through the use of codes or lack of codes.

The work of Daniela Dlugocz (Master of Arts Visual Arts, Edith Cowan University and

Meisterschueler & DAAD Scholarship from Germany) analyses perception in the

physical and psychological sense. Images are drawn on dyed canvas creating a tone-on‐

tone picture which takes time and concentration for the image to be revealed to

the viewer. The atmosphere is created with limited shades of a colour which require

the viewer’s active contemplation.

Pat Thomas (Master of Arts Visual Arts, Edith Cowan University) focuses on the

analysis of images to which we are exposed through the media and their influence

on our understanding of our own place in the world. Her works include photographs

and prints sourced from popular mass media. These are then manipulated and sliced

reflecting the way stories are constructed for media consumption. The work explores

how the mass media, especially electronic media, becomes the landscape through

which we navigate our way in order to confirm or question our personal ethos.

The KURB Performance Perennial was launched in 2006

with performances by the late Noel Sheridan, Martin Heine,Tatjiana Seserko and David Brown.

We’ll even take choirs, coffee drinkers, jugglers and fire eaters if they can prove they’re art.

THERE ARE NO AUDITIONS AT THE KURB

We will support anything that can be done here and publicise it widely

Provided it is not dangerous to the audience or illegal (artists can look after themselves).

These are the terms and conditions for the use of the KURB gallery spaces

Please read them carefully before contacting us with a proposal at

The galleries may normally be inspected by appointment, between 5.00 and 6.00 pm on Thursday evenings, when the director is present.

KURBgallery is an independent art gallery managed by volunteers associated with the Verge Inc.

To this end it provides the cheapest possible gallery space in Perth.

We are a not for profit collective run as part of the VERGE INC.

We do not operate like a commercial gallery.

The KURB provides a platform for experimental exhibitions, installations. film shows and performances,
conferences and other activities which neither commercial galleries nor our inadequate public sector can support,
art with no home in our amnesiac, arthritic art world.

The KURB accepts any proposal provided that it is of a competent standard.

We do not judge the work we show, unless it is dangerous or illegal, you can show it

The KURB does not take commission.

The KURB is not directly funded by any government agency or sponsor

Whilst we carry liability insurance,

Exhibitors are responsible for the insurance of their work and equipment

Opening Times

Our opening times vary with each exhibition and performance.

The exhibitors are responsible for supervising their exhibition however

All our exhibitors are required to keep the gallery open on

Friday afternoon/evenings from 2.00 to 7.30 pm and on weekends between 2.00 to 6.00 pm

These are the times we advertise to the public the gallery must always be open at these times.

Charges rental

We rent

The main painting gallery at a weekly rate of $210.00

The installation performance space from $190.00 a week.

We rent from Saturday to Friday or Sunday to Saturday - never midweek

Single day rentals are normally $120.00

We encourage openings on weekend afternoons

We normally require a $100.00 non returnable deposit to hold a booking

Exhibitors are responsible for all publicity for their exhibition

It must include the KURB logo and be approved by the gallery director before publication.

Rents and deposits can be paid by EFT to the account of the

Verge incorporated at Bendigo bank BSB 633 000 Account Number 122306418

Cheques should be made out to the Verge Incorporated.
